Hiring guide
Hiring a car with a driver in Lusaka.
Updated October 2026. A car with a driver is often the simplest way to get around Lusaka: no navigating, no parking and no worrying about the car while you are inside. Here is what to check before you book with anyone, us included.
What should the price include?
- The driver and the vehicle for the hours booked
- Fuel for driving in town (out-of-town trips are usually priced by distance)
- Waiting time while you are at your stops
- A clear rate for extra hours
Ask for the price in writing before you pay, and ask what happens if your day runs over.
What does it cost?
With Biyashara, a half day (up to 5 hours) starts from K2,000 and a full day (up to 10 hours) from K3,400, depending on the vehicle, with fuel in town included. Multi-day hire is priced per day. See all hourly rates.
Questions to ask any company
- Who is the driver, and can I have their name and number before pickup?
- Is the vehicle insured for carrying passengers?
- What happens if the car breaks down?
- Can I see reviews from other customers?
- How do I pay, and will I get a receipt?
Self-drive or a driver?
Self-drive hire is cheaper on paper, but in a city you do not know, a driver saves time and stress, especially for meetings, errands and nights out. For long safaris, a driver who knows the roads is worth even more.
